Overview

Belsonic is Belfast’s biggest annual outdoor music festival, a summer-long series of major headline concerts staged in Ormeau Park. Organised by Shine Productions, Belsonic has been running since 2008 and has grown from a city centre square into a 15,000 capacity open-air destination that hosts global touring acts alongside celebrated Irish talent. Unlike a traditional weekend camping festival, Belsonic presents individual ticketed shows across several weeks, each with full festival production, large outdoor staging and a dedicated festival village.

The 2027 programme continues this format with five major headline announcements that span indie folk, viral pop, alternative rock and legendary pop groups. Set in Belfast’s oldest municipal park, the festival combines riverside parkland, city convenience and world-class lineups that have previously included Lizzo, Lionel Richie, Shania Twain, Sting, Blondie, Florence + The Machine and Take That.

What Makes This Event Special

Ormeau Park Setting: Belsonic takes place in Ormeau Park, Belfast’s oldest municipal park, offering a green-field festival experience within walking distance of the city centre. The parkland setting provides open skies, mature trees and a natural amphitheatre for large-scale concerts.

Individual Headline Shows: Each event is a standalone headline concert with its own support bill and full production. This allows audiences to choose the artists they want to see rather than committing to a full weekend pass.

Shine Productions Legacy: Organised by Shine Productions, one of Ireland’s most respected promoters, Belsonic benefits from decades of expertise in dance, rock and pop events, ensuring high production standards and strong artist curation.

Diverse Genre Mix: The festival genre is officially listed as Rock, Dance, Pop and Indie Rock, but recent editions have expanded to include folk, country, EDM, hip hop and traditional Irish music, creating a broad appeal.

City Festival Convenience: As a non-camping event, Belsonic allows visitors to enjoy Belfast’s hotels, restaurants and nightlife alongside the concerts. The location on Ormeau Road is well served by public transport and is close to Belfast city centre amenities.

Community Partnership: The festival partners with charity Cancer Fund for Children and has raised significant funds through previous editions, adding a community purpose to the summer concert series.

Lineup / Featured Artists

The 2027 lineup features five headline shows announced via Ticketmaster IE and official channels, each representing a distinct audience within the Belsonic programme.

Kingfishr: The Irish trio have announced major outdoor headline shows for the upcoming season, including a headline appearance at Belsonic. Known for anthemic indie folk, powerful harmonies and emotionally charged live performances, the band will perform to a combined audience of more than 90,000 across their outdoor run. Their set blends modern folk storytelling with stadium-scale production.

Sombr: Performing as part of the You Are The Reason Tour, Sombr brings a viral pop and alternative sound to Ormeau Park. The show is presented as the artist’s biggest Belfast show to date and includes support from Suki Waterhouse. Expect a mix of breakout singles, emotive songwriting and contemporary pop production.

Alex Warren: Grammy Award-nominated, chart-topping multi-platinum artist Alex Warren brings his Finding (More) Family On The Road tour to Belfast. The tour follows the release of his second album Wildchild, a deeply personal record exploring childhood and personal growth while pushing a widescreen pop sound. His Belfast show is part of a major UK and European outdoor run that includes Cardiff Blackweir Fields and Dublin Malahide Castle.

Amble: The rising Irish folk and trad-influenced collective headline with their distinctive blend of storytelling, acoustic instrumentation and modern folk energy. The group has built a strong live reputation across Ireland and the UK.

Take That: Legendary British pop group Take That headline with their Dreamers Tour. As one of the UK’s most successful live acts, their Belsonic show promises a full production performance featuring decades of hits, choreography and large-scale stage design. Take That have previously headlined Belsonic and remain one of the festival’s most popular returning acts.

Event Experience

Belsonic delivers a full outdoor festival experience without the need for camping. Each headline day transforms Ormeau Park into a festival site with a main stage, large screens, food village, bars and merchandise areas.

Gates typically open in the late afternoon, allowing audiences to arrive, explore the park and enjoy support acts before the headliner takes the stage in the evening. The crowd is standing with Golden Circle and General Admission options. Golden Circle is positioned closer to the stage for an enhanced viewing experience.

The atmosphere varies by show, from the communal singalongs of folk and indie nights to the high-energy pop spectacles of arena-level tours. Production includes professional sound and lighting designed for open-air parkland, ensuring clear sightlines across the 15,000 capacity field.

Food offerings include local street food traders, wood-fired pizza, burgers, vegan options and traditional Northern Irish snacks. Bars serve a range of beers, ciders, spirits and soft drinks with cashless payment across the site. Security searches operate at entry points and welfare, first aid and accessible facilities are provided throughout.

After each show finishes, audiences spill onto Ormeau Road and into Belfast city centre, where pubs, restaurants and late-night venues continue the celebration.

Location & Venue

Belsonic takes place at Ormeau Park, Ormeau Road, Belfast BT7 3GG, Northern Ireland. Ormeau Park is Belfast’s oldest municipal park, located approximately one mile south of Belfast city centre along the River Lagan.

The venue layout includes a main outdoor stage facing the natural amphitheatre of the park, Golden Circle standing area close to stage, General Admission standing field with a capacity of 15,000, large video screens, food village, multiple bars, merchandise stalls, accessible viewing platform, accessible toilets, welfare and first aid points.

The park is surrounded by residential areas on Ormeau Road, with entrances clearly signposted for Belsonic audiences. The site is grass and hard standing with accessible pathways and managed entry gates.

As a non-camping festival, there are no overnight facilities on site. All audiences leave the park at the end of each show, preserving the parkland for daytime public use outside event hours.

Event History

Belsonic originally launched at Custom House Square in Belfast city centre, with the first edition lasting three days. Organised by Shine Productions Ltd, the early years featured acts such as The Flaming Lips, Mogwai, The Enemy and The Zutons, establishing Belsonic as a new outdoor music concept for Belfast.

In 2010 the festival expanded to eight days with headliners including David Guetta, and in 2011 to nine days with Tiësto, Beady Eye, 30 Seconds to Mars, Plan B and Elbow. This growth demonstrated demand for a longer summer concert series.

In 2016 the festival moved to Titanic Belfast – The Slipways before settling at Ormeau Park from 2017 onwards, where it has remained. The move to Ormeau Park allowed for increased capacity to 15,000 and improved parkland production.

Recent editions have included Florence + The Machine, Charli XCX, Lizzo, Lionel Richie, Shania Twain, Sting, Blondie, Limp Bizkit, Picture This, Scooter, Alanis Morissette, Madness, Justin Timberlake and Stereophonics. The festival also hosts The Farmers’ Bash, a folk and traditional music event featuring artists such as Derek Ryan, The Whistlin’ Donkeys and The Tumbling Paddies.

Belsonic 2020 was cancelled due to COVID-19 with plans to reschedule, and the festival faced community discussions regarding its impact on residents in 2021. Since then, the organisation has continued to work with local residents and charity partners while maintaining its position as Belfast’s largest outdoor music festival.
